Ann McMann

Ann McMann, an accomplished soprano with a diverse repertoire, has made her mark on the Chicagoland vocal scene. John Von Rhein of the Chicago Tribune wrote, “Her soprano is clear, bright, evenly produced…” Ms. McMann has been seen in many roles at Light Opera Works, most recently in the title role of their critically acclaimed production of Countess Maritza. She appeared with Opera North in Vermont as Frasquita in Carmen and with the Pamiro Opera in Green Bay as Pamina in The Magic Flute, the Mother in Hansel and Gretel, and the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors. Other favorite roles include Musetta in La Boheme, Floria Tosca in Tosca, and Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance. She has sung under the baton of Maestro Daniel Barenboim with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in the Liszt “Dante Symphony” and under Erich Kunzel as Snow White in “Hooray for Hollywood.”

Ms. McMann has performed The Messiah numerous times, most notably with Margaret Hillis at Orchestra Hall in Chicago. Last summer she performed the Vaughn-Williams’ Sea Symphony with the Wheaton Symphony Orchestra where she has become an audience favorite having performed several other concerts with them including the Strauss’ Four Last Songs. Ms. McMann has studied in England with Heather Harper and Anthony Rolfe Johnson at the prestigious Britten-Pears Institute.

She performed in The Phantom of the Opera on tour and on Broadway as the understudy for Carlotta. She has also completed twenty months of performing in the Tony award winning production of Show Boat. She was pleased to perform in two of the shows of the inaugural season of Ovations! at the Auditorium Theatre - Strike Up the Band and One Touch of Venus. She also appeared last year at Drury Lane Evergreen Park in Some Enchanted Evening: The Music of Rodgers and Hammerstein, as Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus with the Fine Arts Symphony Orchestra, and this year in a concert featuring the music of Jerome Kern and Andrew Lloyd Webber with the Wheaton Symphony.

Ms. McMann has taught at the Light Opera Works Summer Musical Theatre Workshops for the last three summers and is returning for her second year at the Wunder Studios Vocal Performance Workshop. Ms. McMann teaches voice at Oak Park/River Forest High School.
