Scott
Uddenberg commands the stage with his powerful presence
and rich, full-ranged bass baritone, sharing his musical
and dramatic gifts in masterful interpretations from Falstaff
and Don Giovanni to Brahms' Requiem and Beethoven's Ninth.
He received critical acclaim for his "effective, warm
tone and teddy-bear lovability" following a recent
appearance as Maesetto in Don Giovanni with Lyric Opera
Cleveland. The production was very well received, earning
the Best Classical Music of 2002 award from Northern Ohio
Live arts magazine.
After making his Lyric Opera of Chicago debut as the Usher
in Rigoletto, Mr. Uddenberg was engaged with Florentine
Opera for the 2001-02 season, appearing as Sciarrone in
their critically acclaimed production of Tosca and as the
Magistrate in Bizet's Doctor Miracle. His diverse operatic
portrayals include the title role in Falstaff, Il Commendatore
in Don Giovanni, Rocco and Pizarro in Fidelio, Colline in
La Bohème, the Speaker in The Magic Flute, and Fourth
Workman in The Shining Brow.
Mr. Uddenberg's versatile instrument also brings him respect
as an oratorio artist. In performances with the Chicago
Symphony Orchestra he sang Peter in the St. John Passion
and covered the role of Raphael in The Creation and bass
soloist in Mozart's Coronation Mass. His concert repertoire
features the Messiah, Mozart's Great Mass in C, Beethoven's
Mass in C, Schubert's Mass in G, Faure's Requiem, Rossini's
Stabat Mater and Brahms' Four Serious Songs. This season's
engagements include Alexander's Feast by Handel with the
North Shore Chorale.
In addition to working under the auspices of several renowned
conductors and stage directors, Mr. Uddenberg has earned
the honor of performing as a featured National Anthem soloist
for the Chicago Blackhawks hockey team.
