Summer Performance Class: May 14 to August 2, 2008
Wunder Studios Performing Arts Conservatory presents the 1937 version of Rodgers & Hart’s classic musical BABES IN ARMS. Recently restored and performed for the first time in over sixty years, the original BABES IN ARMS is nothing less than a revelation. This quintessential ‘Hey, kids, let’s put on a show!’ musical boasts one of the greatest scores ever written. The old-fashioned virtues of a 30’s musical comedy are peppered with socio-political issues, which still resonate, and the classic songs, including Where or When, I Wish I Were In Love Again, My Funny Valentine, Johnny One Note, and Lady is a Tramp, are nothing short of a joy.
In this performance class students will sing and dance side by side with professional performers in two fully staged performances, with live orchestra, in the historic Pickwick Theatre on August 2. Class meets Wednesdays at 6pm for performance skills training beginning May 14. Additional rehearsals are required, but they will not begin until after school is out for the summer. Individual rehearsal schedules are dependent upon casting. The class fee is $240 (includes a t-shirt and 2 complimentary tickets). The minimum age is 5. Adult students are welcome.
Auditions are in progress. All roles are available and all students will be cast. Please be prepared to audition with a classic American musical theatre song from memory. Please call ahead to schedule an audition appointment: 847/685-2030
Upcoming Performance Classes:
Fall 2008: The Wizard of OZ (Royal Shakespeare Company version)
Winter 2008: The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!
Spring 2009: The Pirates of Penzance
Wunder Studios was recently featured on 190 North (WLS-TV channel 7). Reporter Michelle Allegria spent a morning at the studio observing classes and interviewing students and parents. Thanks to all of the families who participated in the videotaping!
Ana Belaval and a crew from WGN-TV did a live broadcast from Wunder Studios on August 9th. They interviewed staff and students from Wunder Studios' Rock Workshop. Fox News also shined a spotlight on Wunder Studios' Rock Workshop in August. A crew from Fox spent a morning at the workshop and interviewed several students just a couple days before they took the stage at the Taste of Park Ridge.
Thanks to Nick Digilio (the Nick Digilio Show) and Bob Sirott (the Noon Show) for interviewing instructors Michael Barrette, Dag Juhlin, and Darren Scorza on AM 720. It was a great opportunity to spread the news about the Rock Workshop and all the other exciting classes at Wunder Studios.
